My mission statement

The times we are working in now need a great deal of accelerated change and there must be no negotiating that down. So my mission statement for this part of my consultancy career is to be clear that there needs to be and will be a lot of change from the work that I do with individuals and organisations and if organisations don’t want that, then it is probably best to go somewhere else.

Professor Paul Corrigan

Since leaving the NHS London Strategic Health Authority in April 2009, I have been working as a management consultant and an executive coach helping leaders create and develop step changes with their organisation.

I gained my first degree in social policy from the LSE in 1969, and my PhD at Durham in 1974. I am also adjunct professor of public health at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

For the first 12 years of my working life I taught at Warwick University and the Polytechnic of North London – being Head of Department of applied social studies at the latter. I taught, researched and wrote about inner city social policy and community development.

In 1985 I left academic life and for the next 12 years worked in local government – mainly in London but also as a member of staff in the local government unit of the Labour party. In 1997 I started to work for myself as a local government consultant. In 1998 I published Shakespeare on Management.

From July 2001 I was special adviser first to Alan Milburn and subsequently for John Reid, the then Secretary of State for Health. Others have credited me with being the architect of NHS Foundation Trusts. At the end of 2005 I became the senior health policy adviser to the Prime Minister Tony Blair before leaving that post in June 2007.
